Amundsen_Science_Arctic_Expedition

2019/07/11-Baffin Sea, Greenland west Coast. We enter Disko Bay. At the end of the bay, the Jakobshavn glacier (or Sermeq Kujalleq in Greenlandic) blocks the Illulissat fjord. We are in the northern hemisphere's main iceberg nursery. This glacier, studied for 250 years, melts at an average rate of 20 to 30 meters per day and produces 20 billion tonnes of iceberg per year, the equivalent of the drinking water used annually in France. During a scientific collecting station, we counted 303 icebergs around us. At the end of the day, the sun spread over the mountains for a few minutes before resuming its course for another day.
